73/183.
Enhancing the role of the Commission on Crime Prevention
and Criminal Justice in contributing to the implementation
of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
The General Assembly,
Reiterating its resolution 70/1 of 25 September 2015, entitled “Transforming
our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”,
Recalling its resolution 70/299 of 29 July 2016, in which it encouraged
coherence of the General Assembly and its Main Committees, the Economic and
Social Council, the specialized agencies and the functional commissions of the
Council, and other intergovernmental bodies and forums with the work of the highlevel political forum on sustainable development towards the follow -up and review
of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,
Recalling also that Sustainable Development Goal 16, on promoting peaceful
and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for
all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, will be
reviewed in depth by the high-level political forum in 2019,
Recalling further the preparations for the Fourteenth United Nations Congress
on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, as set out in its resolution 72/192 of
19 December 2017, including the decision that the main theme of the Fourteenth
Congress would be “Advancing crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law:
towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda”,
Underscoring the role of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal
Justice as the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in the field of crime
prevention and criminal justice,
Bearing in mind that the implementation of the present resolution would support
and be without prejudice to the existing mandates of the Commission,
