International Equal Pay Day The General Assembly, Reaffirming the obligation of all States to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms, and also that all forms of discrimination, including discrimination against women and girls, are contrary to the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1 the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, 2 the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, 2 the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, 3 the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 4 the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, 5 the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination 6 and other relevant human rights instruments, Reaffirming also the commitment made to gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, contained in the outcome documents of relevant international conferences and summits, in particular the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Wome n 7 and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly, entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century”, 8 __________________ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 19-22241 (E) Resolution 217 A (III).
